Resumen : En el centro de idiomas de UNACH, en el quinto nivel los estudiantes tienen problemas para aprender inglés. Tienen éxito en el curso de inglés, pero cuando son sometidos a un examen de suficiencia no tienen éxito. Esta investigación se centra en estudiar la influencia de la motivación instrumental en el aprendizaje del inglés; Este estudio se lleva a cabo en la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Administrativas de la UNACH y en los centros de idioma de la universidad San Francisco, en los respectivos quintos niveles, durante el período académico marzo-agosto de 2016. El objetivo general de esta investigación es describir la influencia de la motivación instrumental en el desempeño académico. El primer objetivo específico es identificar los intereses de los estudiantes para el aprendizaje del idioma inglés. Segundo, identificar el papel que juega la motivación instrumental en el aprendizaje del inglés. Finalmente, determinar las debilidades de los estudiantes en el proceso del aprendizaje del idioma Inglés. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa dentro del nivel de diagnóstico, ya que ayuda a identificar lo que impulsa a los estudiantes a aprender inglés y a determinar el papel de la motivación instrumental. El método cualitativo aplicado fue el etnográfico, junto a la observación científica debido a que se inicia con un grupo de participantes e identificando las variables. Finalmente, encontrar posibles soluciones observando los hábitos y el comportamiento de los participantes a través de la observación. La conclusión es que la mayoría de los estudiantes en el centro de idiomas de UNACH no tienen clara su motivación para estudiar inglés. Además, estudian inglés porque es un requisito. En el centro de idiomas de San Francisco, la motivación de los estudiantes es hablar inglés como segunda lengua y obtener el certificado de suficiencia. En la UANCH, la motivación instrumental hace que los estudiantes aprendan el idioma por un corto tiempo. Pero, en San Francisco, la motivación instrumental proporciona lo que los estudiantes necesitan. En la UNACH no se definen los objetivos de los estudiantes, esto hace que el proceso de enseñanza- aprendizaje sea confuso. En San Francisco, los maestros crear lecciones basadas en la necesidades de los estudiantes.
Descripción : At UNACH language center, in the fifth level students have troubles to learn English. They succeed in the English course, but when they come to taking an English proficiency they fail. This research is focused on studying the influence of instrumental motivation on English learning; this study takes place at Ciencias Políticas y Administrativas Faculty of UNACH and San Francisco language centres, in the corresponding fifth levels, during the academic period march-august 2016. The general objective of this research is to describe the influence of instrumental motivation on English academic performance. The first specific objective is to identify the interests of students for learning the English language. Second, to identify the role which instrumental motivation plays on students’ English learning. Finally, to determine the weaknesses of students from UNACH language center in the process of English learning. This is a qualitative research inside the diagnostic level because it helps to identify what encourages students to study English, determine the role of instrumental motivation on students’ English performance. The qualitative method applied was the ethnographic, alongside the scientific observing method due to it starts with a group of participants and identifying the variables. Finally, find possible solutions observing the habits and behaviour of the participants through. The conclusion is that most of students at UNACH language center do not have clear about their motivation to study English. Also, they have study English because it is a requirement. At San Francisco language center, students’ motivations are to speak English as a second language and get the proficiency certificate. At UANCH, instrumental motivation makes students learn the language for a short. But, at San Francisco language center, instrumental motivation provides what students need. At UNACH the students’ goals are not defined. This makes the learning-teaching process confused. At SFLC, teachers use students’ needs to create lessons with proper activities, techniques, etc.
