| dc.description | The present study analyzes the main oral manifestations in patients with COVID-19. The research work is a systematic review of the literature, following the PRISMA methodology, published studies of the last 5 years were analyzed; retrieving a total of 29 publications from the main scientific academic collections, in addition the PICO question was posed for the specification of the subject and the study group. The main results indicate a high prevalence of oral manifestations in patients with COVID-19, with taste alterations (up to 60% of cases), xerostomia (17.8% to 44%) and ulcerative lesions (up to 47%) being the most common. The tongue emerged as the most affected site, followed by the buccal and labial mucosa. A wide variety of lesions were identified, including aphthous ulcers, petechiae, candidiasis, and herpes-like lesions. However, discrepancies in the prevalence and types of lesions reported were observed between different studies. It is finally concluded that oral manifestations are a clinically relevant aspect of COVID-19 with potential diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic implications. This implies including comprehensive oral evaluations in the management of patients with COVID-19 and suggests the need for further standardized research to better understand the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 and oral health. | es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | El presente estudio analiza las principales manifestaciones orales en pacientes con COVID-19. El trabajo de investigación es una revisión sistemática de la literatura, siguiendo la metodología PRISMA, se analizaron estudios publicados de los últimos 5 años; recuperando un total de 29 publicaciones de los principales acervos académicos científicos, además se planteó la pregunta PICO para la especificación del tema y el grupo de estudio. Los resultados principales indican una alta prevalencia de manifestaciones orales en pacientes con COVID-19, siendo las alteraciones del gusto (hasta un 60% de los casos), xerostomía (17.8% a 44%) y lesiones ulcerativas (hasta 47%) las más comunes. La lengua emergió como el sitio más afectado, seguida por la mucosa bucal y labial. Se identificó una amplia variedad de lesiones, incluyendo úlceras aftosas, petequias, candidiasis y lesiones similares al herpes. Sin embargo, se observaron discrepancias en la prevalencia y tipos de lesiones reportadas entre diferentes estudios. Se concluye finalmente que las manifestaciones orales son un aspecto clínicamente relevante de la COVID-19 con potenciales implicaciones diagnósticas, pronósticas y terapéuticas. Lo que implica incluir evaluaciones orales exhaustivas en el manejo de pacientes con COVID-19 y sugieren la necesidad de más investigación estandarizada para comprender mejor la relación entre el SARS-CoV-2 y la salud oral. | es_ES |
