Description: Today, the management of drinking water in the country has remained largely unchanged from previous years, with only minor adjustments; at times, this has led to a neglect of the reviews and updates of information necessary to carry out actions, designs, and decisions regarding water resources or population factors that may be affecting them. By maintaining outdated design plans; which are based on obsolete ranges established by regulations-imposed years ago, the importance of certain factors related to water consumption is overlooked. The purpose of this study is to obtain hourly residential consumption curves in the Patate canton and to identify and correlate urban planning, socioeconomic, and hydraulic factors that may influence them. The research was conducted through surveys administered to various local households, as well as by collecting and processing 24-hour consumption data from water meters over 7 days. The hourly consumption curve showed a high consumption range from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. across socioeconomic strata A, B, C, and D, with a peak of 120.09 l/h. A maximum hourly consumption coefficient of 2.92 was also calculated, which may be appropriate for future designs in the parish of Patate. All results from this study are presented graphically and in detail to assist the relevant authorities in their efforts to improve water resource management in Patate.

Description: This research evaluates the physical and mechanical properties of stone materials obtained from five active quarries in Tungurahua Province: ALVORTIZ, KUMOCHI, RUMICHACA, LAS JUNTAS 1, and VOLCÁN, to determine their potential for use in the construction of granular layers for permeable pavements. The methodology was developed using a quantitative, descriptive, and comparative approach through in situ sample collection and laboratory testing conducted at the Civil Engineering Laboratory of UNACH. The tests included particle size distribution, bulk density and void content, specific gravity, water absorption capacity, and abrasion resistance. The data obtained were compared with the results of previous studies on interlocking, flexible, and rigid pavements. The comparison demonstrated that the behavior of the aggregates is influenced by their geological origin, exhibiting higher absorption and porosity levels than those commonly used in conventional pavements. Among the evaluated quarries, ALVORTIZ showed the best mechanical performance, with only 28.18% mass loss due to abrasion, the highest bulk density of 1,966 kg/m³, and a coarse gradation consisting of 55.98% gravel. In contrast, the RUMICHACA and VOLCÁN quarries exhibited high fragility, exceeding the recommended regulatory limits for certain wearing courses. It was concluded that, although several quarries meet the basic specifications, the stone material from the ALVORTIZ quarry has the greatest potential for the design of permeable pavements among the analyzed samples, as it provides the best balance between structural strength and hydraulic functionality for stormwater infiltration.

Description: An analysis of hourly residential potable water consumption in the Mera Canton is essential for adequate planning and management when designing effective strategies for water use. The objective of this research is to determine the hourly pattern of urban residential potable water consumption and to evaluate the influence of socioeconomic strata and consumption habits in the canton of Mera. To identify the socioeconomic strata of the neighborhoods included in the study, the urban and socioeconomic characterization method was applied. This approach allowed the identification of four stratification levels (A, B, C, and D) through the analysis of 202 household connections belonging to the Mangayaku and Rio Tigre distribution networks. Subsequently, residential water meter readings were collected from a defined sample of 102 service connections over a continuous 24-hour period, during the seven days of the week. The main factors influencing daily consumption included socioeconomic stratification, type of residence, number of inhabitants, and number of sanitary units, among others. Based on the collected data, hourly residential consumption curves were developed, allowing the identification of maximum demand patterns. The most significant peak occurred between 05h00 and 06h00, when the highest consumption flow rate in the canton was recorded (Qmax = 98.29 L/h). In addition, hourly consumption variation coefficients were determined, with the highest peak observed at 06h00 (Khmax = 3.4), exceeding the limits recommended by the CPE INEN 5 (1992) standard.
